km from the start

Located 1,225 meters above sea level, Bormio is located in a large natural amphitheater in the center of the Alps. In the heart of Alta Valtellina, about 60 km from its capital Sondrio, it is surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Rhaetian Alps, which reach an altitude of almost 4,000 meters, and inserted in the Stelvio National Park, it boasts suggestive scenery and uncontaminated landscapes. Characterized by a favorable climate, it allows you to enjoy the mountains in all seasons. In winter, skiing and all outdoor and snow activities dominate. In spring, summer and autumn, you can choose from more than 600 km of trails within the Stelvio Park, to be covered on foot or by mountain bike without forgetting the great climbs of Stelvio, Gavia, Bernina and Mortirolo. Thanks to its central position along the trade routes of Northern and Southern Europe, the country enjoyed strong autonomy and wealth for a long time, which is still reflected in its historic center. In fact, it is easy to get lost in the streets and alleys where there are churches, palaces, and old peasant houses. The past is also kept alive by traditions that have been repeated unchanged for centuries. For those who want to spend a few days of vacation in absolute relaxation, Bormio also offers ancient thermal waters that flow from nine sources to power three plants, Bagni Nuovi, Bagni Vecchi and Bormio Terme. Without forgetting the flavors of typical Valtellina dishes: pizzoccheri, sciatt, bresaola, polenta, bisciöla and cheeses... these are all peasant dishes whose flavor has remained to this day. All this, accompanied by Valtellina wines, local beer, Braulio, Taneda and other local liqueurs.
